Weird issue with digital sound output

I put in the King Kong HD movie and there was a message about getting an
update. Movie played fine on the HD player but now all 480p DVD movies have
screwed up sound. It's the exact same sound I would get if I set digital
output on the console to 5.1 instead of stereo output. My DA converter only
does 2 channel stereo but the 360 is supposed to down mix 5.1 to 2 channel
stereo according to my settings. It does for all games and the HD DVD movies
but not 480i/p movies. WTF is up with that? I don't want to have to be
forced to use analog stereo when I have a decent DA converter hooked to my
amp. I called Microsoft tech support about it and the guy was stumped and
couldn't help me. I told him to notify his tech support people that the
update screwed up my 360's digital audio but only for standard def movies.
Anyone else notice this? You will only get the issue if you are using stereo
digital output to a digital to analog converter.
