Is murder in a time of war justifiable?
A lot of different ways to view the issue, based on one's personal morals, beliefs, how one defines war, murder, and what one's standards are for justifiability.
I suppose my views would be best summed in saying that it can be. The sadness of war is that ultimately it is, in essence, a large group of strangers fighting over common ideals. If the enemy could be considered ruthless and the cause being fought for is felt just, then I feel murder can be considered justified for the good of the whole.
For wars without a general meaningful cause, however -- as many in the current world are, unfortunately -- I would say that the murder is justified only in a legal context.
Not that it matters much at all, though, since I don't believe in an afterlife and any moral qualms I have won't quell the slaughter.
