Back in the day, I was completely in-love with RPGs. But nowadays...I just find the whole grind feast to be a bit of a bore and the obsessive-compulsive treasure finding disorder I have to be a large bother. Hell, even in Bioshock I went nuts collecting loot and the audio histories and what-not.

I don't know, maybe I'm just "evolving" as a gamer or whatever, but I've even grown out of Halo despite how good I had become. What a bother.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Grinding really only applies to MMORPGs, which I don't even see as RPGs these days. No true storyline. :\ Though, I do know you have to sometimes grind to get to that level you need to be to beat a boss. Which I really don't mind. I will find joy in grinding to the highest levels and such. It's what I did in Star Ocean: Till the End of Time.

As for find treasures and stuff... Well, it doesn't get boring for me that much. I still have the enjoyment of roaming around the entire game world finding the best stuff. Though, I'm starting to hit FPS and RTS type games. I have S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadow of Chernobyl, and Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance, and They're both great. I haven't been able to really play any RPGs for a while. When I moved up here, I didn't bring my games. >> Only my PC games. XD

I've seen it in tons of games. Maybe I play too fast or something, but I always find the need to grind on enemies to be able to beat a boss. I miss the days, like Final Fantasy VIII, where you could just play the storyline and beat the game. You should have to level up extra to complete extra side-quests, not the main story...make you work for the extra stuff and bosses.

As for the treasure finding, I too love being able to explore everywhere. My entire map in World of Warcraft is uncovered because I went EVERYWHERE I could possible reach without hacking the game. I love finding treasure and stuff, but I have a problem, like a disorder that MAKES me find EVERY piece of treasure there is and if I don't I'm going to die.

I have yet to get bored out of playing RPGs or games in general >_>. Even though I've been a gamer for over a decade I'm still batshit crazy for gaming. I think the only difference is that now I'm not able to game as much as I would like to and it doesn't bother me too much.

In Japan, they're called "Pocket Monsters", at least orginally. Dunno if Nintendo made the general populace just start calling it Pokemon after it got successful.

The Japanese have a strong tendency to shorten lengthy words and phrases, so it didn't take long for the populace to just say Pokemon (like, the romanji for Pocket Monsters it Poketto Monsutaasu or something to that effect, so cross out some kana and you'll get PokeMon or Pokemon). 'course I think it was part of Nintendo's plan anyway.

Games? Wh-right, games.

It's not so much the retentive gameplay that bothers me, I quite enjoy looting chests and swashbuckling my way to some insane level and hours, however catgirls and beastman are beginning to bore me. Do we really NEED more depressed villains with homosexual tendencies and young man from farming villages wearing goggles?

The content is always the same, and something really original and out of the norm is needed to impress me, like Shadow Hearts or Persona.

Gisele is pretty much right on all points made.

Way too many RPG's are way too comfortable in just using a paint by numbers story, with predictable plot twists, and casts which fit comfortably into different archetypes.

Shadow Hearts and Persona are 2 of the more recent series that tried to do things in a unique manner.

Sadly, few others will have that same bravery.

Try getting everything on Star Ocean, it could take like 2000+ hours to get everything on every setting.
