I thought it was fairly obvious they used the term "rape survivor" as a form of metaphor, to mean someone who has gone through rape. The implication isn't that one can die from rape, but that it's a room of people who have been raped.

My experience with those who have been raped is admittedly rather paltry, but I haven't met one so shallow so as to use it as an excuse for a failed relationship.
